Kwality Ice Cream in Nepal

                  

In Nepal the history of ice-cream industry dates back to some 40 years age. In 1945 (2010 B.S) Nepal dairy corporation started producing ice cream out of it its primary product-milk. Ice cream is a by-product of milk. It was produced in small scale under the traditional technology. The flavor in the product was minimal. Then in 1960s, himali ice cream Pvt. Ltd. was set up with a sole objective of producing ice cream under modern technology. Due to the lacking of strategic planning, the company went into liquidation.

In 1980s (2036 B.S), a food chain ‘Nirulas’of India opened its selling outlets in Nepal. The selling outlets started to sell ‘Nirulas’ ice cream, the product of India being imported in neap. Nirulas also started its production unit in Kathmandu. But the company was liquidating in 1998 for various reasons such as uneconomic size of production and employee problems.

The Everest ice cream Pvt. Ltd. was established in 1987 in Kathmandu. It was the first of its kind to produce ice cream with its own production plant and distribution cannels.

In the early 1990s Indian brand ice cream such as Vadilal and Indian entered the Nepalese market to gain advantage from the growing demand for ice cream in Nepal. Indian closed down after a year of its operation.

There are many small scale ice cream manufacturing units in Kathmandu. The way of selling their products is through push carts.

 In 1987 (2043 B.S) Kwality ice creams of India under its diversification plan, found Nepal a feasible area to expand its business. The companies approach quite a few reputed businessmen with proposal of technical collaboration. The Amatya Group of Industries was the first to respond to the proposal. It marked the beginning of an ice cream manufacturing unit. As a result the Everest ice cream Pvt. Ltd. (EIC) was formed in 1989 as the part of the Amatya Enterprise Group of industries. The company has its own production plant with fully equipped machineries, laboratories and competent staffs.
